The Prince's New Clothes (裸の王子, Hadaka no Ōji) is the first episode of the Ousama Ranking anime.
Overview[]
Bodge, who was born deaf, couldn't speak, and was so weak that he couldn't even swing his sword, was despised by his vassals and people as "not a king's vessel" even though he was the first prince. One day, Bodge meets the surviving lizard of the assassination group "Shadow Clan" and is deceived by the clothes he was wearing.[1]
Summary[]
Sheena comforts Bojji as he cries on her lap for being picked on and they make a promise that he'll be the strongest king in the world.
As Bojji walks through town barely clothed, people quietly laugh and mock him.
Bojji plays throughout the kingdom and he notices Kage dragging a large bag. He spots Bojji and attempts to rob him, but he reveals that he can read lips but can't hear or answer. Bojji gives him his clothes and agrees to return with more expensive clothing. Bojji walks through town in only his underwear and crown.
Bojji repeats the process of wearing expensive clothes, traveling to meet Kage, and walking back to his home in only underwear for several days. After several days, Kage began to take a special interest in Bojji and follows him secretly as he walks back to the castle barely clothed. Though most residents gossip to themselves, children run up and question him. When he tries to answer, they mock his inability to speak and he runs away. As Bojji returns to the castle, the guards also talk behind his back and Kage is impressed that Bojji can continue smiling.
Queen Hilling, Domas, Apeas, Sandeo, Dorshe watch Bojji walk in. His step-mother scolds him for walking around naked as Domas signs her words. When Sandeo suggests he was mugged, Queen Hilling orders Domas to kill them. Bojji begins to panic and insists that he was playing by himself, which embarrasses Hilling. She continues to scold him.
She says that he has no qualities of a heir to the throne. Bojji looks hurt but Hilling orders Domas not to translate it (thinking he cannot understand without it). She tells the group that they're leaving. She asks why he had to be born before Daida and says that a new law has to be passed that uses a merit system instead. As she walks away, she scolds a knight about his tunic.
Kage thinks the king must be stupid to marry her. Domas stays and kindly signs that the king called for him and he should get dressed. Kage follows him into his room and sees him quickly cry before wiping his face, forcing a smile, and walking back out.
Kage regrets the pain he caused him and vows to become his friend, though he lost sight of Bojji. He rushes out of the room to find him. Bebin notices Kage as he leaves and prevents him from escaping.
At the king's bed chamber, Bojji struggles to open his father's door. When he enters his father's room, Bebin, Sorii, and Domas stand beside Bosse as he greets his son.
Before Bosse founded his kingdom, there was only a small town there. Suddenly, the village faced an attack from several monsters. The villagers fought with all their might at the cost of many lives in order to drive them out. But it was only the beginning. Having seen the incoming horde of monsters, the villagers feared for their fate. When the villagers saw that man fight, they sensed that he was not human but their gratitude for him was above all else. And the man who turned the fight around was also confident and compassionate, which charmed the people. This was the foundation of his kingdom.
Bosse coughs blood and asks about his public nudity. He asks what happened but then says it doesn't really matter. He holds Bojji's hand and says he's a memento of his previous wife, so it makes sense that he's cute. He says that he is worried about his kingdom as Bojji's hands are soft while Daida's are strong, causing Bebin to smirk and Domas to become embarrassed. He tells Bojji and Domas to train harder and says that's all he wanted to say.
With the frustration of his failure to teach Bojji, Domas begins taking his anger out on training equipment. Daida approches and asks if Bojji has improved, noting that he wants to see the two in a bout. He says that Bojji isn't ready but agrees to bout against Daida instead.
As they raise their poles to each other, he feels that Daida has a similar aura to Bosse. He is impressed when Daida attacks him but quickly overpowers him and knocks him to the ground. Daida becomes angry and refuses his help up. Bojji notices that Domas is impressed by his swordsmanship and challenges Daida.
Various residents of the castle gossip about their bout in the courtyard garden and many go to watch. Hokuro and another soldier discuss who they think will win, with one noting that Daida defeated the former first commanding officer, Bohen. The other, Hokuro, notes that he saw Bojji cornered by a large amount of snakes and they attacked him from all sides all at once.
Bojji and Daida fight. Although Daida's blows are powerful, he is unable to hit Bojji who skillfully dodges his attacks. When Bojji does manage to hit back, his blows are weak and do not affect Daida. Many are impressed by his ability to avoid attack.
