The Gyakuza Kingdom was an overworld kingdom neighboring the former Houma Kingdom.
History[]
According to King Bosse, the residents of the Gyakuza Kingdom had always been ruled by outsiders and had everything taken from them. To survive, they deceived others in order to protect themselves and their interests. This behavior was so ingrained into their culture, they believed themselves justified in whatever they did to others.
The Gyakuza Kingdom was revitalized by the neighboring Houma Kingdom
During the war with the gods, the Houma Kingdom approached them in order to secure a military alliance. Finding that Gyakuza was in no condition to fight, let alone barely survive, the representatives from Houma utilized their wisdom and resources to help reform the Gyakuza Kingdom. They also taught them how to use magic. Within a few years, Gyakuza had developed a civilization rivaling that of Houmas. However, the cultural divide was still very strong between the two peoples. Whereas the people of Houmas were kind and always helpful, the people of Gyakuza viewed kindness as a weakness. They would go on to exploit Houmas and their representatives, such as Miranjo's mother, wherever and whenever possible.
During the war with the gods, the Houma Kingdom's military were willing to engage in conflicts that had a high risk of defeat, so long as they could weaken the god's grips on their various enslaved populations. They also treated their opponents military with respect after they lost, being merciful to the prisoners they captured. The Gyakuzan military, however, behaved in a complete opposite manner. When they were in a losing battle, they would almost immediately rout, and any prisoners captured by the Gyakuzan military were brutally tortured and killed. Unfortunately for the Houma Kingdom, all blame would be placed at their feet for these atrocities.
The Houma Kingdom would ultimately perish when the Gyakuzan Kingdom betrayed them, siding with the gods when they realized they were fighting a losing war. They achieved this by lying to the gods themselves, claiming that Houmas had taken everything from them and trampled down upon their once-rich land. While the gods knew the Gyakuzan were lying, and were even tempted to enslave the kingdom, they ultimately decided to leave the kingdom be. The representatives from Houmas were killed, including Miranjo's mother, and the Houma military quickly found themselves fighting an enemy now reinforced by their former allies. They also proceeded to torture all those they captured, such as Miranjo.
Bosse would learn of their betrayal, and rushed to Gyakuzan to try and protect Miranjo and her mother, where he would find Miranjo chained to a pole, beaten, filthy, and starving. Her hands had been chopped off and her face was mutilated. This led to Bosse slaying the entire population of Gyakuzan, no matter their age, whether they ran, or begged for mercy. He then proceed to fill a sack with the corpses, and took them and Miranjo to a physician so she might be restored using their body parts.

- There may be a possibility that the thief that took Kage in was a human from Gyakuza. This is due to having a similar art style and character drawing to the Gyakuzan people, as well as motives when selling Kage out for money.
