Kingbo (J, J) is a character in Ousama Ranking and its anime adaption. He is a former king who lost his kingdom and later became a criminal. He was imprisoned in the Underworld until being freed by Miranjo.

Appearance[]

Kingbo is a very tall, muscular man with white eyes, unkempt gray hair, a long face, and numerous crowsfeet around his eyes. He wears golden plate armor, a small helmet that simulates a crown, and a flowing red cape.

Personality[]

Like the other criminals freed from the Underworld, Kingbo has a vicious and savage disposition, and doesn't think twice before attempting to murder his benefactors or assault Ouken.

It's suggested in flashback that Kingbo has always been a vicious man, but that when he was a king this side of him was tempered (at least slightly) by his family and subjects. His father's final wish was for Kingbo to find some empathy for his subjects, suggesting Kingbo may have been a tyrant.

Kingbo appears to be deeply embittered by the loss of his kingdom, due to the fact that his father (who was a previously ranked as number one in the kings rankings) slaughtered his subjects and destroyed the kingdom.

Plot[]

Losing a Kingdom[]

Kingbo did not found his original kingdom, but instead inherited it from his father, who abdicated the throne after accepting the title of #1 ranked king in the world.

Before passing the crown Kingbo's father voiced his misgivings about his son, suggesting he believed Kingbo to be a tyrant.

Kingbo's father destroyed his former kingdom

An indeterminate amount of time later Kingbo's father returned, bearing an artifact from the Divine Treasure Vault: a runed greatsword. Unbeknownst to his son and former subjects, Kingbo's father had been driven insane by the magical sword, and proceeded to slaughter his entire kingdom before razing it to the ground.

Kingbo survived his father's rampage and appears to have turned to a life of crime after losing his throne. At some point in the past he was captured by forces of the Underworld, and imprisoned for his offenses.

Coup of the Bosse Kingdom[]

Kingbo would remain imprisoned until being freed by the sorceress Miranjo, and enlisted to help her conquer the Bosse Kingdom.

Most of the other prisoners considered Kingbo the strongest in the group, and Zokku in particular deferred to him when they took over the throne room. Kingbo took Daida's crown for himself, only to become enraged when he found Ouken sitting on the throne.

Ouken kingbo

After a very brief altercation, he appeared to have been slain by Ouken.

Zokku disposed of Kingbo's body by tossing it off of the ramparts of the Bosse Kingdom's castle, into the surrounding woodlands. Miraculously, Kingbo was discovered by Domas and Hokuro, who appear to have recovered and treated his wounds as they engaged in their own preparations to retake the Bosse Kingdom.

Reappearance[]

Kingbo's whereabouts during the subsequent conflicts with Ouken and Miranjo, and at the end of the attempted coup, are unknown. He reappeared after everything seemed settled, his golden armor allowing him to mingle undetected with the Order of the Underworld as they prepared to leave the Bosse Kingdom.

In a final act of spite, Kingbo revealed himself and slashed the rock encasing the defeated Ouken in half, freeing the immortal once again. Kingbo then lopped off Ouken's head and pitched it hard into the far distance, sneering that it was revenge for Ouken's attempted murder.

Finally, Kingbo stole a nearby horse and rode away into the countryside. He has not been seen since.

Relationships[]

Mad King[]

Kingbo father

Kingbo's father bears a strong resemblance to the unnamed Mad King

It's heavily implied that the mysterious Mad King is Kingbo's father. Kingbo's father showed marked disapproval of his son, and encouraged him to find more empathy for his subjects. In spite of this, Kingbo was allowed to inherit his kingdom, only to be nearly killed when the former king returned and slaughtered most of his subjects.

Kingbo's father was, at one time, the #1 ranked king in the world. This entitled him to enter the Divine Treasure Vault and pick one of its magical artifacts for himself. Like most #1 kings, Kingbo's father chose a runed sword. These swords are said to contain the language of the gods and be able to grant any wish to those who decipher their symbols. A cruel trick likely left behind by the Gods, the swords actually drive their users mad.

Abilities[]

Fallen Royalty[]

Kingbo is a former King, meaning he is considered strong enough to lead a kingdom. He later proved his strength by easily countering Apeas, one of the Big Four of the Bosse Kingdom.

Trivia[]

  • Kingbo's name likely derives from the English word "king" (キング, kingu) and the Japanese word for "ruin" or "downfall" (没落, botsuraku).
  • It's speculated that Kingbo may be the former ruler of the Bo Kingdom. This is due to his name, as well as his passing resemblance to members of the Light clan.
